You need to realise that the health of the
skin depends upon the health of the body as a
whole and so an holistic approach to skin care
is the most effective. Let's look at some
factors which are known to age the skin.
Lack of
Exercise
Exercise is important in keeping the body
healthy in general and in aiding the lymph
system, an important elimination system for
waste products. Facial exercises can help keep
the face wrinkle-free. Check out Facial Gymnastics which is
a great way to maintain a youthful looking
face.

Poor Diet And
Nutrition
It's vital to make sure your diet provides the correct
nourishment for your skin. Avoid chemicals like pesticides as
much as possible by going organic. Wholefoods are much
healthier than refined foods such as white bread because they
retain more nutrients. Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds
are good sources of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty
acids which are important for the health of the skin.
Environmental
Toxins
Use natural products in the home for cleaning, washing
clothes and so on. Try to avoid household products with lots of
chemicals in them, especially where the products come into
contact with the skin.
Dehydration
Make sure that you drink enough fluids during the day
so that you keep hydrated. This is vital for the health of
the skin. It's best to consume healthy drinks like water.
Exposure To The
Sun
The sun is one of the most significant factors which ages
the skin. So you need to protect yourself adequately by
limiting your exposure and by using sunscreen.
Smoking
Smoking is the second most important factor contributing to
aging the skin. Research has shown that if you smoke, your skin
ages more rapidly.
Drinking Alcohol
Alcohol is the third most important factor in aging the
skin. It causes the small blood vessels near the skin's surface
to dilate. The blood vessels then become damaged which results
in the flushed appearance of people who abuse alcohol.
Stress
When you are stressed, the stress hormone cortisol is
produced and the effect of this is to increase oil production
in the skin. This can lead to flare-ups of acne and other skin
conditions.
Poor Sleep
Long-term poor sleep or lack of sleep causes stress
whose negative effects have already been mentioned. Lack of
sleep also increases the inflammatory cytokines and insulin
resistance both known causes of acne.
By following these clear skin tips, you'll keep your skin
healthy and slow down the aging process. Take a look at my
other pages for lots of useful information and advice on
specific skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and
rosacea.
